Philippines: Visayas grid enters red alert as generation reserves run short

The Visayas power grid in the Philippines moved into its highest alert level on September 15, 2026. The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, or NGCP, declared a red alert from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A yellow alert applied from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and again from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. The numbers explain the concern: only 2,353 megawatts of generating capacity were available while peak demand was expected to reach 2,492 megawatts.
