The Visayas power grid in the Philippines is under significant strain on August 25, 2026. According to the Philippine News Agency, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines scheduled red-alert periods. Available capacity was around 2,421 megawatts while peak demand was expected to reach about 2,570 megawatts.
A red alert indicates that available generation cannot safely cover demand and required operating reserves at the same time. Several generating units are unavailable because of forced outages or reduced output.
A red alert does not automatically mean every customer will lose power. It does mean the safety margin is very small and another failure can quickly lead to controlled load shedding or rotating interruptions.
For households, an official grid warning is a useful signal to charge power banks, prepare drinking water, keep refrigerators closed and make essential equipment ready.
