Power cut while travelling: How to prepare for cancelled trains and stranded journeys

When control centres, stations or information systems fail, a journey can suddenly stop. Offline details, an alternative route and a few reserves keep you flexible.

Power cut while travelling: How to prepare for cancelled trains and stranded journeys
A power cut does not have to affect your train directly to stop your journey. If control centres, servers, passenger information or parts of a station fail, trains may be cancelled, rerouted or terminated early.

Save train numbers, times, interchange stations, booking references, hotel address and important phone numbers offline. Screenshots remain available when mobile networks are overloaded. Know at least one alternative route and carry a charged power bank.

A little cash, water and a snack are useful if card terminals, ticket machines or shops stop working. When travelling with others, agree on a meeting point in case communication fails.

Never enter tracks, operating areas or closed sections. Railway safety instructions still apply during technical failures.
